Instagram Tribute by Singapore Nursing Community Care To Go Beyond

===========

On 9 July 2021, the nursing fraternity mourns the loss of an exceptional nurse… one whose nursing legacy will always be remembered by the next generations of nurses. Apart from being known to many as a former Chief Nursing Officer, Ms Ang is fondly remembered by her former colleagues as a leader, mentor and friend. Former and current Chief Nursing Officers pen their heartfelt tributes, below:

“As a mentor, Beng Choo is someone that her peers and colleagues could trust and engage with in confidence. As a caring colleague and friend, I would always remember how she would find time to have special lunch dates with us at work or her home during her off days. She would personally prepare home-cooked food and even see to the set-up of the table so that we could have an enjoyable meal. This gesture was her trademark as she imparted her wisdom through our conversations. At the same time, we will get to enjoy some of her delicious recipes such as Peranakan assam prawn, Laksa and more.”

– Ms Paulin Koh, present Chief Nursing Officer, Ministry of Health

“Ms Ang was a passionate, dedicated, capable and strong nurse leader. She made great contributions to the development of nursing in Singapore during her tenure as one of my former predecessors. Last year, we launched the commemorative nursing book titled: ‘Nursing: Our Profession, Our Pride’. We were so grateful that she readily accepted our request to be featured in it… but that is how we will always remember Ms Ang. She was always very helpful, approachable and kind towards her staff and colleagues. Surely, we will all miss her very much. Though you are gone from our sight, you will never be forgotten from our hearts.

— Ms Tan Soh Chin, former Chief Nursing Officer (2015 — 2020)

“I had the immense honour of taking over the CNO mantle from Beng Choo. I witnessed how she laid a strong foundation for the next CNOs to firmly stand on, and upon which to stretch boundaries and expand horizons for the profession. Beng Choo was a gracious leader, quiet in mannerism but strong in conviction. She holds true to her principles while remaining forthright, and decisive. Although short as her life may be, it was a life well-lived. Her legacy was purposeful, and mission-minded. She had accomplished much for the profession that it cannot be compared nor measured. Singapore nursing truly owes Beng Choo our deepest gratitude and highest respect.”

— Dr Pauline Tan, former Chief Nursing Officer (2007 — 2014)
